How have you have supported others to develop their practice?

I have been a community practice teacher supporting learning in clinical practice. I have supported many students in gaining their professional registration in nursing and health visiting. I have also mentored health visiting professionals in gaining a practice teacher qualification. This has included empowering them to develop teaching skills and competence in facilitating a effective clinical learning environment for students.

What are your current student education interests/new developments?

I am passionate about public health and health promotion, including early intervention and prevention.

My interests include:

  • safeguarding
  • child development
  • the engagement of fathers in parenting support services and simulated learning

I am in the process of working on a project to engage students in case based learning, in particular the application of family centred care throughout the nursing curriculum, in the development of a family tree electronic resource.
