There are a number of leadership roles in Student Education at the UoL. These pages provide details of the support available for colleagues who hold leadership roles supporting Student Education at Leeds.

Support and Development for Directors of Student Education

New for 2026/27 is our Leadership Development Programme for all DSEs and Deputy DSEs across the institution supported by a new DSE Resources Hub and DSE Practice Exchanges.

The Leadership Development Programme features five workshops, each focusing on different core Student Education leadership qualities. It is underpinned by a Leadership in Practice project that provides an opportunity to focus on an area of work and translate ideas and reflections into actions. The wider aim is to build and develop our DSE/Deputy DSE community and provide opportunities for peer learning and support. All colleagues in these roles will receive invitations to the programme from OD&PL.

The DSE community is supported by our new DSE Resources Hub on SharePoint, which is a central space for induction, development and support that has been co-created with DSEs and Deputy DSEs. There will also be a series of in-person DSE Practice Exchange meetings to facilitate informal discussion and exchange of ideas.

Training and Development for Programme Leaders

Leadership Development for Programme Leaders in 2026-27 consists of Faculty- and School-based programmes, addressing core tasks for Programme Leaders and wider Student Education leadership qualities.

The whole programme of workshops has been a really valuable space to bring together Programme Leaders across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and across the different (and relatively disparate) areas of our School. They have helped us work more effectively and strategically as a team.

All our Programme Leader Development has been co-designed with Faculties and Schools and is tailored to these local contexts. Programme Leaders involved will receive an invitation to the relevant Leadership Development programme.

Programme Leaders can also sign up to the Training and Development for Programme Leaders Minerva organisation. These online, self-study resources help to navigate the Student Education landscape at Leeds, better understand the role and the lifecycle of a taught programme, and identify opportunities for collaboration and programme enhancement.

Stepping into Student Education Leadership

New to Student Education Leadership? You can access our new self-directed course to support you with reflecting on your approach to leadership.

If you are embarking on a Student Education leadership role this year and would like to reflect on your approach to leadership in this area, you can explore our Stepping into Student Education Leadership course.  This online, self-directed course introduces you to authentic and values-led leadership, ways of influencing and building consensus, and the wider context of your leadership at Leeds.
