Leading in Student Education workshops

These are a series of workshops and self directed learning designed to introduce and strengthen core leadership areas directly relevant to your Student Education role

The sessions have introduced me to different leadership styles, that I wasn't aware of before the training, and that I feel could work with my own values. The discussions have provided insight into the experience of others at different levels, and have provided a good foundation for me.

The programme uses self-directed learning and peer-based learning to explore 3 key themes: Understanding the system, Influencing others and building consensus and Presence and authenticity.

In-Faculty Student Education leadership support

To support leaders in student education within their faculty we have designed and piloted workshops that aim to strengthen collaborative leadership practice amongst student education lead roles within faculties.

These leadership workshops were an incredibly helpful space to a). find an understanding of how the institution functions beyond the module level of leadership and b). start to establish a sense of belonging within the wider university.

We recognise the value of learning with colleagues who understand the environmental context in which they operate and the importance of embedding leadership theory into a practical reality.

Piloted in one faculty already, this workshop can be tailored to individual faculty requirements. We will work with you to design the workshop and will provide facilitation for the event.

Leadership development information sessions

Join us for an information session to learn more about the full range of leadership development programmes offered by OD&PL, each designed to support leaders at different stages of their careers. In the information session, we’ll review the course content, explain the application process, and help you identify which programme may be the best fit for you. There will also be time for any questions you may have.

Programme leader training and development

New for 2025-26 is our Training and Development programme for Programme Leaders. Whether you are a new Programme Leader or have been in the role for a little while now, you are invited to sign up to this development programme on Minerva. The online self-study resources will help you to navigate the student education landscape at Leeds, better understand your role and the lifecycle of a taught programme at Leeds, and identify opportunities for collaboration and programme enhancement going forward. We are also working with Schools and Faculties to provide tailored training and development workshops for programme leaders. Directors of Student Education

The Director of Student Education (DSE) Forum is an informal online network that includes Directors and Deputy Directors of Student Education (DDSE) and staff who work closely with them. Development opportunities for DSEs and DDSEs are shared on the dedicated channel on the MS Team.
