How have you have supported others to develop their practice?

I support others both formally and informally on their teaching practice and am often approached by colleagues for advice and tips around innovative teaching. I am leading a University-wide area of work to support staff in embedding sustainability in their teaching through producing a suite of resources. I have previously carried out research into student engagement which has informed practice around building community, induction events, field trips and societies. I have coordinated a knowledge sharing event with colleagues in the Sustainability Research Institute with those who had taught online in Semester 1 of 2020/21, sharing ideas and tips for those who were about to embark on online teaching in Semester 2.

What are your current student education interests/new developments?

I am leading on the Resources work stream as part of the University-wide Leeds Sustainable Curriculum working group - this involves developing a suite of resources to support staff in embedding sustainability in what and how they teach. I am exploring the emotions involved in students who are studying sustainability and am involved in work around compassion in the curriculum. I am also involved in a variety of initiatives around increasing awareness of the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector as a career path for our students and coordinate a staff/student group which encourages engagement with sustainability issues. I have an ongoing interest in student engagement and have carried out research on this area in the past.
